Stratas Auctions
Overview
Stratas Auctions brought car auctions to the online world in the midst of the pandemic, while everyone found themselves buying what they could online. Recognizing the vast space in this industry and the opportunity in it, Stratas wanted to occupy it as largely as they could.
Tools Used
- Webflow
- Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator
The Challenge
Stratas needed a powerhouse website that would include a multitude of functionality for their users. Being able to not only bid and consign, but engage with one another as well as the website. Stratas also wanted to capture user information, to help with tracking and to enable them to reach out to users who are interested in consigning.
Goals
- Allow users to bid online and consign
- Create a community within the platform
- Increase engagement with the site
- Capture user information
- Provide different pathways for users to reach their goal
Process Highlights
User Research
Stratas' main demographic was older, wealthy individuals who may be not be tech savvy or even have the time to be in front of the computer, so it was important to be able to guide them through some of the processes.
There were two main competitors that I was able to research into, comparing what I thought they were successful at and what they could improve upon.

Homepage
I decided to put the live auctions front and center on the homepage. This is a clear indicator for the user to show them what the main objective of this site is without wasting any precious time. Utilizing a card style layout helped keep the details contained and the design clean.
The main action we want the user to take here is to bid on the vehicle, so styling that button blue and having it stand out amongst the other visuals helps the user understand that action.
Listing Detail Page
It was a challenge figuring out the listing detail page's element hierarchy with such a hefty amount of information. I chose to display the details of the bid as one of the main areas of focus. Again, highlighting the bid now feature. I also created a smaller bidding component that appeared as the user scrolled along the page, making sure it is as easy as possible for the user to complete this action.

Platform Community
To enable the users to engage with each other, I implemented a comment section and a questions section. For further engagement, I added the 'like' button for each comment, with the user's total likes collectively displayed next to their username.
Stratas did not want the community to be so easily accessible for passerby's. There had to be a way to filter out people from the car enthusiasts with genuine comments or questions. I decided to hide these sections behind a prompt asking the user to login to view the sections.
Consignment Process
Stratas needed to provide different ways for a user to consign with them, since many users would not have the time to fill out a long questionnaire. Along with informing the user of the different ways they could consign, I created another pathway within the online consignment form. This would enable the user to continue as a guest without creating an account, eliminating work for the user but still capturing necessary information for Stratas to contact them.
The form itself I broke down into sections, to be more easily digestible for the user and to give an indication of where they are in the process. I also worked with the client to figure out what information was completely necessary for them to be able to contact the user.

The Solution
I designed a website that enabled Stratas to collect information from users at different stages of each process to help Stratas better understand their users. It’s to the point and encourages users to take action, whether that’s bidding, consigning, or engaging with the community.
